Fasting is not a diet or a healthy eating routine, although it does have its physical benefits. Fasting, put simply, is a way to abstain from something good (food, social media, etc) to gain greater clarity and focus on God. In the Book of Matthew, Jesus tells the disciples that some spiritual practices can only be done through prayer and fasting. Corporately, we fast for 21 days to set the tone for the rest of the year and grow closer to God.
